En mi caso (soy QA Automation Engineer certificado) ascendieron a un colega que no sabe programar ni siquiera tiene bases de programación y yo, que cuento con varios proyectos demostrables y con complejidad, no me tuvieron en cuenta.

Solo espero que no solo haya sabido Java y ya, porque si no tiene conocimientos generales de programacion para aplicarlos a cualquier tipo de software y lenguajes, el titulo de Ingeniero de Software le quedaba muy grande. Ser experto en una herramienta no debe eximir tener conocimientos generales de software que facilmente pueden ser aplicados a cualquier lenguaje de programacion.

Ves dos currículum, uno sabe x lenguajes de programación, x frameworks, su experiencia es relativamente normal (2-3 años). El otro está especializado en x lenguaje con más de 10 años de experiencia controlandolo. Eres el contratante, a quien eliges o quien te ha dejado mejor impresión?

Todo el mundo ahi dice "no esta mal que solo sepa Java", hasta que llegan momentos donde el mantenimiento es imposible, el lenguaje te pone mil trabas y se vuelve una piedra de tropiezo. Luego observas como otros equipos con Python o TS sacan features mucho mas rapido que el tuyo. Esta bueno que vayan revisando si existen otras heramientas que puedan ampliar el abanico de soluciones. 8 años estoy en Java, estoy cansado, ahora estoy aprendiendo GO y hasta ahora me viene resultando mas agil y veloz para codear y leer codigo.

Es 100 veces mejor saber todos los lenguajes de programacion que puedas, y saber todo lo que se pueda en general, pero si te pagan por cortar madera, da lo mismo si alguien lo haces con un hacha de un filo o de setenta mil, solo hay que saber cortar madera con lo que usas

No. Ser senior quieres decir que un senior software engineer. Con atención en la palabra engineer. No existe el término senior software Java o senior software JavaScript. El senior puede acoplarse a otras tecnologías ya que todas siguen los mismos principios.

A ver gente, ya cualquiera que tenga un par de años en este medio debe saber que en empresas que sin ser su giro el desarrollo de software, pero que cuentan con equipos de desarrollo in house, no necesitas ser experto en frameworks o tecnologías (que la empresa luego ni utiliza), debes ser bueno conociendo el negocio (las reglas) de pi a pa o en su caso como opera el software principal o ERP de la misma. Eso vale más que lo otro en esos ambientes y con mucha razón.

En mi empresa los senior no solo son expertos en un conjunto de tecnologías sino también en arquitectura, conocen bien el negocio y demuestran liderazgo, proactividad y responsabilidad. Solo con conocimientos técnicos no alcanza.
